NDIS Transport Services

NDIS Transport Services in Melbourne - SEWA

Transport plays a key role in enabling individuals with disabilities to live independently and stay connected to their community. It provides access to work, education, healthcare, and social activities. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) offers transport support for participants who face challenges using public transport due to their disability. This is why participants must understand the range of assistance options available to support their needs.

At SEWA, we are a registered provider of NDIS transport services, supporting participants across Melbourne, including Cranbourne, Narre Warren, and Clyde. We provide support to Australians under 65 living with permanent disabilities. Our dedication to personalised transport solutions empowers people to live independently.

NDIS Travel and Transport Assistance

What is NDIS Transport and Travel Service?

The NDIS Transport and Travel Service in Berwick, provides support for individuals who have difficulty using public transport due to their disabilities. This assistance includes funding for various transportation options, such as taxis, rideshare services, and community transport providers. The goal is to ensure that participants can travel safely and comfortably to their desired destinations. These can be workplaces, schools, healthcare facilities and community events.

The NDIS provides funding for transport assistance to help participants travel safely and independently. Support may include:

  • Travel training:

Learning to use public transport effectively.

  • Assistive technology:

Tools to improve mobility or travel confidence.

  • Vehicle modifications:

Adapting private vehicles to meet specific needs.

  • Transport funding:

Covering costs for taxis, rideshares, or other private options if public transport isn’t feasible due to disability.

It’s important to note that NDIS transport funding only covers supports that meet the scheme’s criteria for “reasonable and necessary.”

What is NDIS Transport Funding?

The NDIS is responsible for funding certain supports related to transportation that help participants access essential services and engage in community activities. This funding supports participants by providing financial assistance for their transport needs.  The NDIS may fund various transport-related supports, including:

  • Transport assistance for medical appointments.
  • Funding for taxi services or specialised transport services.
  • Support for community participation and social activities.

However, it does not cover transport assistance for carers to transport family members for everyday activities. At SEWA, our support workers will assist at every step, making transportation easier for participants.

What are the Levels of Transport Services Support?

There are three levels of transport funding under the NDIS, based on the participant’s specific needs:

  • Level 1:

This level is for participants who are not working, studying, or attending day programs but seek to improve their community access.

  • Level 2:

It is for individuals currently working or studying part-time (up to 15 hours a week) and participating in day programs or other social, recreational, or leisure activities.

  • Level 3:

This level is for those who are working, looking for work, or studying at least 15 hours a week and cannot use public transport due to their disability.

In exceptional circumstances, higher funding is available for participants with specific support needs. This funding is included in the participant’s core support budget and designed to promote active involvement in society. NDIS community transport services include tailored individual requirements ensuring accessibility and convenience.
